5 Things to Do (Besides Netflix) When You’re Bored

things to do when you're bored

It’s one of those days, isn’t it? Or, perhaps it’s day 10. You’ve been sitting at home for a while now, bored beyond belief, looking for ways to entertain yourself. Scrolling through social media is getting old, you’re not quite in the mood to do a home workout, and you’ve been lounging in your PJs past the point of no return.

If you’re looking for things to do when you’re bored, we feel you. Boredom can be a struggle, making you feel sluggish and bringing your mood down. But, sometimes a little change in routine can help you feel reset and re-energized, saying #boybye to that boredom.

So, before you load up your Netflix, ready to binge watch Love is Blind all over again, we’ve rounded up a few other ways to help amp up your spirits and beat the boredom.

Things to Do When You’re Bored

1. Have a self care day

If you’ve got time to kill, why not take that time to pamper yourself? Stay in those PJs and give yourself an at-home spa day. Start by doing an at-home facial (here’s a quick guide on how to DIY a spa level facial), followed by a hair mask, completed with a relaxing and essential oil-infused bath. If you’re really feeling up for it, try making a homemade body scrub to lather yourself with afterwards!

2. Read a book

Take some time to soak in the words of a good book. Nowadays, so many of us spend our time reading digitally – that we forget how great it is to unplug and get immersed in a hardcover book. Pour yourself a cup of tea, find yourself a comfy spot in the house, and open up that book you’ve been meaning to get to.

3. Organize

If you’re someone who can’t quite sit still, then maybe a little spring cleaning is just what you need! Pick a spot in your home that you’ve been neglecting that could use a bit of organizing. Maybe that’s purging items in your closet, or maybe it’s the kitchen drawers. We’ve all got a spot in our homes that could use a little TLC – so now’s the time!

4. Learn

One of the best things to do when you’re bored: learn! Fear not, we don’t mean it’s time to dust off your college Econ textbook (though, there’s nothing wrong with that either!). Instead, get yourself access to some majorly good info online. Sites like Udemy have thousands of courses you can take, ranging from quantum physics to home decor. There’s tons of information out there, so if there’s a skill you’ve been meaning to brush up on, try giving it a shot.

5. Start a project

Whatever happened to that podcast you were thinking of launching? Or, that kitchen herb garden you wanted to try out? Take advantage of the extra time you have when you’re feeling bored, to start a new project. If you’re someone that’s always on the go, you may have had a few things you’ve had to put on the back burner. Now’s the perfect chance to dedicate time to something that deserves the attention it needs!

So, before you head on over to Netlflix to re-live what Lauren, Cameron, and the rest of gang got up to, give yourself the downtime you need before things get hectic again. Take this as an opportunity to find time for the things that you would normally wish you had time to do.

Your future self will thank you. You got this, girl!
